Why You Should Visit Victoria Fisherman’s Wharf

One of the most colourful attractions in Victoria is the floating Fisherman’s Wharf where you can explore the eclectic collection of houseboats, floating restaurants and eco-tour adventures.

Why You Should Visit Victoria Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria BC

I visited Fisherman’s Wharf at the beginning of this year while I was on a press trip for Dine Around & Stay in Town 2019. I’ve named it one of the top things to do in Victoria while you are visiting. Here’s a look at my experience.

Float Homes

The Eastern end of Fisherman’s Wharf is where you will find the colourful float homes which have owners who live inside them.

Aside from having colourful exteriors, many of the float homes had unique and whimsical decor.

Beside float homes, there are also working fishing vessels, pleasure boats with live-aboard residents, and commercial businesses moored at the docks. For those seeking fresh fish or seafood, this is the place to be.

When to visit

As I was visiting in January, it was off-season and most of the shops and eateries were closed. However, it was still a nice walk around the wharf to see the colourful float homes.

How much time do you need to spend there?

If you are eating there and exploring, I would say about two hours. Otherwise, if you are visiting off-season, you would probably need just an hour.

How to Get to Victoria’s Fisherman’s Wharf

Fisherman’s Wharf is located just around the corner from Victoria’s Inner Harbour. It is about a 20-minute walk from the Fairmont Empress along the Inner Harbour. You can also get here via the Victoria Harbour Ferry. Bike racks are available as well as paid parking.
