One top family-friendly activity in Los Angeles is riding a train at Griffith Park & Southern Railroad, which has been in operation since the 1970s.

The trains at Griffith Park & Southern Railroad travel over one mile of track, across a bridge, through a tunnel, into a forest and through a mini Old Western Town.

Their miniature railroads carry nearly 500,000 passengers each year. Weather permitting, they operate 364 days a year, closing on Christmas Day only.
At the time of our visit, the pricing was adults ($4); child ($3) and senior ($3). Value pack of 20 or more tickets was $3 each. They also have a simulator ride which is $5 per person.

Their trains are 1/4th and 1/3rd scale models of actual locomotives and passenger cars.

We also stopped by Griffith Park Snack Bar for some treats after the ride. They offer hot foods like fries and hot dogs as well as frozen treats like snowcones and popsicles.
